Using Data Dictionaries in Custom Sensitive Data Types

Custom Sensitive Data Types support the use of data dictionaries, which are lists of terms used to match (or exclude) the content of fields and files for Classification. Any platform user with a platform role that includes the permission to create Custom Sensitive Data Types can create regular expression for Custom Sensitive Data Types.

    Prepare Data Dictionary

Your list of terms should be saved as a .CSV or .TXT file, with terms listed in a single column. Do not include a column header label, as this could accidentally become a matched value.

    Configure Sensitive Data Type

    1. Navigate to Classification > Sensitive Data Types
    2. Either:
      1. Click the Create Sensitive Data Type button to add a new Sensitive Data Type
      2. Click the Edit (pencil) icon on any table row to edit an existing Sensitive Data Type
    3. Select relevant Data Type Category, or create a new one.
    4. Optionally, add a description and any relevant data tags.
    5. Under Match Conditions, you can apply specific conditions for matching keywords and/or content to dictate the classification of this sensitive data type. Adding these improves the accuracy of detecting sensitive data.
      1. Select is in dictionary or is not in dictionary in the dropdown next to Content to match against a data dictionary. (Matching against Keywords is not supported for Data Dictionaries).
      2. Click the Upload new Dictionary link and follow on-screen instructions to upload a TXT or CSV file.
    6. Click Done once uploaded.
    7. Click Save.
